Okay I love this so much honestly at the begining it felt like a slight drag as I didn't know what I was doing or how to complete quests but by the end of the game I was left in tears wanting more of this beautiful world and its residents. I would absolutely love to see more from you creator!~

(BTW I love the 2 going on the date, just those few interactions made me squeal with joy)

yay! i'm glad you took to it! the game definitely doesn't tell you much to start with, but i did want players to organically discover stuff on their own, to make them really feel like they're a traveler in a new unknown place. still, i'll definitely work on making things clearer in future titles

(1 edit) (+1)

It would be nice to know what the controls are, I swear I didn't find the inventory until I played Frost and I was spamming random keys trying to find it!

(+1)

for future reference, they're included in the README file that came with the game

(+1)

Ah that would explain a lot I got the game off the itch.io app so I didn't see the folder which contained the game :)

(+1)

The people and creatures reminds me of Over the Garden Walls and Adventure Time, what a beautiful aethetic!

those were both definitely inspirations. thanks so much!

(+1)

Wow, this was such a lovely adventure! 🥰 Absolutely fell in love with the characters! The letters were such a great touch 💌 And now it's winter? I look forward to visiting everyone again, but I got a little seed of hope in my heart, so I'm going to go help build some stuff at a local culture/event space now ⚒️ ✊ 💕

(+1)

wow that's wonderful to hear!

The game window is really small for me, is there any way go get a higher resolution? Resizing and fullscreening doesn't work. This is the normal game, not the (Small Resolution)-version (that is way smaller, I tried) 😊

(+1)

unfortunately, not at this time - but i'll definitely look into it for the future! sorry you had to play it so small, haha

(+1)

haha, it was pretty easy to forget. this was 100% my type of game, so got sucked into the world pretty quickly 🥰

(1 edit) (+1)

love the game!!!! question though and in case there's a spoiler OR a glitch, I'll be vague in case....red screens????

(+1)

This game looks fantastic

Such a beautiful game, I like the exploration and how you can interact with many elements in the game. Also how the NPCs have so much character. Love it!

Just few things I feel can be improved: Sound is a bit too low, also I feel like highlighted buttons should have more contrast, and more sound feedback to actions and rewards would be nice.

Great game overall, can't wait to see what's next for it!

i'm glad you enjoyed! thanks for the advice - UI and sound design are definitely some of my weak points, so i'll be sure to give them extra attention in my next project.

(1 edit)

thank you for this beautiful game. the artwork is lovely (including the music) and i just feel like this spreads a little bit of joy, which is so precious! also, you have such a nice grasp on small tweaks that make the gameplay feel fresh - the hidden paths felt so clever and intuitive, the number of times i've been playing a jrpg and just wished i could cut through a patch of trees rather than going around!

thanks so much for playing and discovering the secrets of the forest!

omg no thank YOU

CANNOT EXIST A GAME SO BEAUTIFUL, dont you post art or something on instagram?

hello! i post art on twitter and tumblr under the username BynineB.

How do I open the file rather than the play method? I'd love to play. I don't know how to open the jar type file.

hello! in order to run this game, you'll need to install java. here are the full instructions:

This game is an executable .JAR file. In order to run it, you must have Java installed on your computer - be sure it's the latest version! (You can get it here: https://www.java.com/en/download/) From there, it should be as simple as double clicking on the program; if that doesn't work, please look up how to run a .JAR executable on your operating system. Check the README for controls and credits!

I'm so sorry, but I can't play. I've repeated installing and running Java as you said several times, but when you play your game, there are a few problems with the game, and it doesn't work.

Good game. I really enjoy it, it was emotional, meaningful. Keep on the good work<3 <3

thanks so much!

I just finished this game. Really enjoyable, and quite emotional in a low key way. I do have one question. The preview images show some scenes and features which I didn't see in my playthrough. The shrine never had any cherry blossoms, and it was never winter. What's with that?

(1 edit)

hehehe... sorry, you caught me mid-update! the good news is, if you play the new update you'll be able to see those for yourself!

(+1)

Well, that's just fantastic. I'll check it out.

this is most definitely one of my favorite games ever. the art style is cute and conveys the tone perfectly, the characters are unique and fun, and the story was mysterious and moving but also cozy and happy. one of the most nuanced games I have ever played through, I will be thinking about this game and it's characters for years to come.

that's very high praise, thank you so much!

(+1)

What a beautiful, charming little game! Compelling with an interesting, quiet story. Exploration is loads of fun, but the characters are the cherry on top. In love ♡

thank you!!

(+1)

saw the game on twitter and played, i love it

(+2)

I loved this game...it gets the idea of compassion right without being corny or overly-sweet. I really like some of the mysteries that are hovering over the gameplay as well, namely surrounding the west. Melancholy done right.

i'm really happy to hear that it accomplished that. there is a gentle sweetness to this world, but it can only feel real when it's accompanied by some sadness.

(+1)

I love this game so much it's such a beautiful experience to play

thank you so much, i'm glad you enjoyed!

I literally just finished this 5 seconds ago and this is definitely one of the best games I've ever played. I almost cried from how pure and wholesome this is. Such a beautiful experience from beginning to end!!! infinity/10 bless

P.S. Dev is super sweet and helpful and a sweetheart.

i'm very glad you enjoyed!

I downloaded java but it still won't let me play. I attempt to (both in itch & file explorer) and it just, doesn't happen? I don't know what to do :( Maybe I'm doing something wrong?

hi iamthefirebird! i'm sorry to hear that. please email me at byninegiga AT gmail DOT com and let me know your operating system so we can discuss this further.

when i try to launch the game it says an error that java runtime environment is required to run this title and will not let me play. do i have to download something else?

yup! the instructions are listed when you download the game, but here they are for convenience:

"This game is an executable .JAR file. In order to run it, you must have Java installed on your computer - be sure it's the latest version! (You can get it here: https://www.java.com/en/download/) From there, it should be as simple as double clicking on the program; if that doesn't work, please look up how to run a .JAR executable on your operating system. Check the README for controls and credits!"

Ah, this game is so wholesome and refreshing! I saw the video come up on tumblr and noted to revisit when I got a chance. Months later and I finally played it! Life gets so busy and this reminded me it's ok to take some time to chill. I'm left feeling at peace yet ready to do what I can to make the world a better place. Thanks for this game, and thanks for putting out a video with the guitar music. Maybe you could put out a short video of the singing frebs as well, otherwise I'll just have to replay and visit them =) Please keep being creative.

thank you for this lovely sentiment; i'm really glad you enjoyed the game and that it meant something to you. ill see if i can get a video of the frebs.

(+2)

the world has been making me feel sick lately. this game made me feel better for a bit!

(+2)

i'm sorry to hear that. but at the same time, i'm glad i could help, even just a bit!

(+2)

I loved this game so much! I'm crying (good tears), it was beautiful! While I may not be able to give you any money for it, I thought I'd write you a little poem to show my appreciation! (I'm sorry if I got Yokey's name or Leslie's drink wrong. :S)

Yokey :
lovely little guardian
You left your friends alone
They know it wasn't your intention
Yet they still wish you'd come on home
In spirit they'll toast
Red bean coffee and apple cider
Three cup full
One empty
For a journey fulfilled
In front of shrine unsealed.

thank you for such a nice poem and i'm glad you enjoyed!

This game was lovely, a very comfy hour spent! Your art style is gorgeous and I can't wait to see more, I feel inspired to make things of my own.

A couple questions if you don't mind: Is there a full drawing of the adventurous girl? She reminds me of that knight lady you drew a while back. Also, is the game's music available online?

that's wonderful to hear! i don't have a drawing of her but i did imagine her to be the same species as the heart knight. maybe they're relatives! and ill be sure to upload the entire guitar track when i get home (i assume that's what you mean by the game's music haha)

(1 edit)

a very cute species, I have a black lab so when I saw that character I instinctively wanted to flop her big black dog ears around

and yeah the guitar track is nice and relaxing, I'm finding myself playing the game again just so I can stand around and listen to the guy play it some more

sorry for being late, here it is! :

(+1)

sweet dude. thank you!

(+2)

A beautiful couple of hours spent. Wonderful art, music, story, atmosphere... I might've teared up a little at the end of the credits. Thank you for the game, Bynine!

(+1)

thank you for playing and enjoying!!

(+2)

I absolutely LOVE this game! It's beautiful, adorable and really fun to play. 10000/10! I absolutely recommend to anyone who likes adventure games. Can't wait to see what else the developer comes up with, or expands with!

thank you thank you! i hope my future projects will prove even better.

(+2)

Excellent design, fantastic artwork, and an overall tranquil experience.  I look forward to future projects of yours.

(+1)

thank you so much!! tranquil is a nice word for this.

(+3)

Far too cute!! i enjoyed this little romp immensely and honestly I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting to chill out for just a little while. very soothing; very therapeutic... just want the game to be longer (or perhaps even a second installment?)

Great job Bynine! You've made my day, I hope I can make yours too, and happy new year!

no problem! thank you for playing and for your high recommendations!!

(+2)

I just finished this and I absolutely adore the world youve created!! i love the cozy feeling created by the colors and textures!

yay!!

(+3)

love this game, so cute and wholesome

SUCH A GOOD GAME

(+1)

Hello! I very much want to play this game, but trying to run it just gives me an error that says "a Java exception has occurred". Google has been unhelpful in fixing this. Do you have any idea what might be causing this?

(1 edit)

Hello Blightbug! I'm very sorry to hear that's happened! When was the last time you updated Java? You may be running an old version, which would certainly cause this problem. If your version is up to date let me know and we can try and resolve this further.

Edit: Also, you'll want to restart your computer after updating your Java, just to be sure.

(+1)

That was it, thank you so much!!!

(+1)

oh, wonderful! please enjoy!

what is this here? help is needed

i'm sorry, i don't understand what you mean

Do you have a release date in mind? Looking forward to this!

(+1)

yes, the game's release date is december 30th of this year!

(+1)

Hype!!!

(+1)

This is so cute dude, can't wait for it

(+1)

i'm glad you like how it looks! i hope the result will impress
